ABOUT US

Understanding you, understanding us

Would you like to learn about other cultures? Analyze the way people talk? Ever wonder how different you are from the people around you?

We hear the word diversity so much, but how diverse are we really? Are we open minded enough to other styles of living? The Dwight-Englewood Anthropology Club focuses mostly on studying and publishing articles related to the culture of the Dwight-Englewood School. The club sheds light on the four main branches of Anthropology: cultural, biological/physical, linguistic, and archaeological. It is dedicated to fostering openness and understanding to different ways of life among all involved in the D-E community.

Anthropology is the study of humans. Therefore, the Dwight-Englewood Anthropology club will be studying the humans of Dwight-Englewood. The club will be dedicated to finding out what makes Dwight-Englewood diverse and unique compared to the "norm" in the United States, or other countries. Club members will publish ethnographies about cultural trends in Dwight-Englewood. This is a rapidly changing world and being able to empathize easily and work with people of different cultures backgrounds is very important.

By joining the D-E Anthropology club, students will both to gain and practice a new skill and learn about topics not covered in their classes. Students will learn to write ethnographic articles, which may be similar to short history papers, but differ in that they require students to interview and observe people to gain a sense of Dwight-Englewood culture. Students will also learn about the four main branches of anthropology and about famous anthropologists and their works.
